An Associate of Science Degree in Paralegal Studies is offered at the Cumberland County College in Vineland, New Jersey. The A.S. program is approved by the American Bar Association. This program is mainly meant for students who wish to join as juniors in universities and four year colleges. The college has transfer agreements with many such universities. Upon completion of this program, students can also start their careers as paralegals in a law firm or other organization.

A paralegal is defined as a person qualified by education and training to be hired by an organization to assist lawyers with their legal obligations. A paralegal cannot practice law but can perform some legal work under the supervision of an attorney.

The Paralegal Studies program at Cumberland County College covers various subjects which prepare students for careers as legal assistants. Some of the topics included in the course are civil litigation, principles of family law, legal office management and legal research and writing. There are certain general education topics to be covered for credits such as Mathematics Elective, English Composition and Science Elective.

The Cumberland County College in Vineland was established in 1966. It was the first community college in New Jersey to have its own campus. It offers over ninety career and transfer study programs. There are more than 3000 students who enroll every semester and financial aid is available for most through loans and grants.
