Description
West Valley College was established in the year 1963 offering 100 programs with about 53 instructors. It now offers programs that can lead to associate degrees and certificates as well as transfer and occupational programs. It is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It has transfer agreements with many of the University of California and California State University campuses as well as the Santa Clara University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Stanford University. It offers an Associate of Science Degree and a Post-Degree Certificate in Paralegal studies that has been approved and accredited by the American Bar Association. Faculty members are highly trained members of the legal profession who have many valuable years of practical experience. Students are trained to get the gist of the American legal system as well as that of the practice of law. They are trained to work under the direct supervision of attorneys and to prepare and draft documents, pleadings, contracts etc. They are also given significant training in identifying the sources of research, to conduct research and to analyze the data generated by the research. They are also provided basic training in civil litigation procedures and are given a definite idea of the ethical and professional responsibilities of legal assistants. They are also trained to do thorough legal analysis and are introduced to technology in legal offices. They are given an in-depth view of corporate transaction procedures as well as introduced to administrative law and procedures in federal and state agencies.
