Description
Webster University is a private, non-profit institution that offers several undergraduate and graduate programs. Founded in 1915 in Webster Groves, Missouri, it is a multi-campus, international university that is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. It has several extended campuses across the United States as well as the world with a total of about 21,000 students worldwide. Paralegal programs offered at the main campus of the institution are approved by the American Bar Association. It is a member of the American Association for Paralegal Education as well as being an institutional member of Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges. It offers an M.A. degree in paralegal studies with 39 credit hours as well as a graduate certificate in Paralegal studies with 24 credit hours. The certificate is offered at the St. Louis campus and at the Kansas City metropolitan campus and the program may be integrated with the M.A. degree program. Faculty members are practicing professionals who are competent educators. Students are provided with an overview of torts, contracts, property, and criminal law. Students are also made to reflect on legal positivism, and sociological jurisprudence. They are trained to identify, locate and utilize research sources to gather data that has to be comprehended, analyzed and used appropriately. They are also trained in the ethical and professional responsibilities of paralegals. Training in criminal and civil action is also helpful in giving them a more complete education. Training is also provided in new and emerging developments in their fields. The internship program provides them with valuable practical experience.
