Description

Virginia Western Community College is a public two year institution that is part of the Virginia Community College System being the largest single-campus college in the system. Virginia Western Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees. The institution is approved by the State Board for Community Colleges as well as by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. It was founded in the year 1966. It offers day, evening and weekend classes as well as distance mode of education. It offers about 23 associate degree programs and 36 certificate programs. Its students transfer to more than 30 Virginia four-year institutions.

The Virginia Western Community College also offers programs in paralegal studies that can lead to an AAS degree. The curriculum is structured in such a way as to train students who have an interest in law. They are trained by skilled, highly trained faculty members to be competent and skillful to work under the direction as well as supervision of practicing attorneys.

Students are trained to garner a basic understanding of American Law and made to understand the various sectors of law where legal assistants may be employed. Besides this, they are trained in criminal law, torts, domestic relations, evidence, ethics etc. Students are also trained in real estate law and taught how to deal with transactions, drafting documents, as well as introduced to searching public documents etc.

Students are also trained in Family law and how marriage disputes are dealt with such as separation, divorce, custody adoption etc. Legal research as well as writing helps them to evaluate situations, conduct research and analyze the information that has been gathered.
