Description
Affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia, Virginia Intermont College is an undergraduate coeducational college that was established in 1884 as the Southwest Virginia Institute. It holds accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools It offers several programs of study that lead up to a baccalaureate degree. It has a student faculty ratio of 12:1. Financial aid such as numerous scholarships, grants and federal and state aid packages are available. Virginia Intermont College has a career development office to provide counseling and advice to deserving students. Tutoring service is also available. The paralegal studies program that it offers is American Bar Association approved and the faculty consists of lawyers, judges, and certified paralegals etc. who are experts in their respective fields. The curriculum is well planned and it offers study in two areas, Business and Litigation. The four-year program can lead to a B.A. or B.S. degree. The various courses offered introduce the students to the court system as well as gives them insight into the fundamentals of the Paralegal profession. Students are trained to conduct legal research, evaluate and analyze legal problems, draft documents, prepare for criminal cases, as well as the ethics that govern their profession. The students are also trained to manage law offices and deal with Estates and trusts. Consumer rights, domestic relationship laws are also dealt with among others such as Business law and Litigation. The students are placed in cooperating law firms and are given first hand experience of a job atmosphere. Students have access to Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis databases in the college Library. q
