The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Department of Criminal Justice and Legal Assistant Studies currently offers a legal assistant studies program for students looking to establish a career as a legal assistant. The course is designed in such a way that students can customize their degree in order to suit their future goals. The legal assistant program is one of the few four-year courses available in Tennessee and trains students to enter the legal assistant work force in a number of environments, ranging from law offices to government agencies. The course gives students an overview of the legal system and how it operates. It also teaches students about office management with respect to a legal environment. The course covers subjects such as litigation, legal writing and research, business organization and evidentiary procedures. Students will also undergo a period of internship in order to gain practical experience in the legal assistant field.
