Description
The University of Oklahoma Law Center was founded in the state of Oklahoma in 1909. It has the distinction of being one of the top 15 law schools in the United States and offers a number of law-related courses and programs. The Law Center is also home to the American Indian Law Review and the Oklahoma Law Review, currently catering to the academic needs of 500 students. The University of Oklahoma Law Center offers a legal assistant program for students looking to becoming professional legal assistants. This certificate course is approved by the American Bar Association and offers training for students looking to find employment in any law-related profession, ranging from law firms to insurance companies. The program stresses the development and use of the comprehension and reasoning skills of its students and encourages analytical thinking. It also aims to develop both communication and management skills. The classes are taught by lawyers and legal assistants, with concentrated lectures offered every Saturday. Students will learn the basic fundamentals of the legal system as well as computerized legal research and how to use legal software. Students will also learn how to process and handle evidence as well as what is admissible and what isn't during trial. The course will also cover the rudiments of legal research and writing so that students will become familiar with the drafting and formatting of legal documents such as wills and contracts. Special emphasis is placed on learning law office management skills.
