Description
The University of California-Irvine was founded in 1965 and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The university caters to over 15000 students and offers a range of graduate and undergraduate courses. The university was ranked among the top fifty universities in the United States in a 2006 survey. The University of California-Irvine offers a certificate course in paralegal studies that has been approved by the American Bar Association and teaches students about the workings of the legal system as well as the responsibilities of being a professional paralegal or legal assistant. Students will also learn about legal theory and how it integrates into a working office environment. The paralegal studies course covers a wide range of subjects and also helps students develop their organizational and research skills. These subjects are available in accelerated courses and online courses as well, and include the fundamentals and responsibilities of legal assistantship and an introduction to the workings of the legal system. Students will also learn about contracts, legal writing and research, civil litigation and the ethics of being a paralegal. The course will also cover business law, computer-aided research, corporate and criminal law, family law, software applications in legal practice, patents and trademarks, copyright law, real estate and bankruptcy law, torts and intellectual property rights. The course further assists students in becoming well-equipped paralegals and legal assistants by allowing them to create their own portfolio of law-related documents and legal pleadings.
