Description
Mississippi University for Women was established in 1884 as the first public college for women. It includes four colleges and offers more than 50 majors and concentrations. It has a student/faculty ratio of 12/1. Men were admitted to the college from 1982. It offers a B.A. or a B.S. Degree in Paralegal Studies. The major courses include programs such as Introduction to Paralegal Studies, Legal Bibliography and Research I, Legal Bibliography and Research II, Legal Environment of Business, Torts, Legal Writing, Law Office Technology and Management, Real Estate Law, Civil Litigation, Practical Legal Lab, Information Systems Using Microcomputers, and Logic. The Paralegal Studies Minor Requirements include Introduction to Paralegal Studies, Legal Bibliography and Research I, Legal Bibliography and Research II and Legal Environment of Business. Students have to select 3 courses from Estates, Wills, and Trusts, Legal Writing, Law Office Technology and Management, Real Estate Law, Civil Litigation, Family Law and Bankruptcy Law. The Electives Available in the Paralegal Studies program include Contracts, Business Organizations, Estates, Trusts, & Wills, Special Topics, Administrative law, Criminal Law, Family Law, Environmental Law, Bankruptcy Law and School Law. Financial aid is available to deserving candidates including federal and state aid packages. The faculty members are experts who have many years of practical experience. Successful candidates may seek employment in private law firms, corporate establishments, insurance companies, banks, government agencies etc. It has to be noted that they have to work under the direct supervision of an attorney.
