Description
Marist College was founded in 1929 and was started as a seminary for training Marist Brothers. As early as 1958 it had started offering evening programs to meet the needs of local students. Today, it is an independent coeducational liberal arts college with more than 5000 students in the main campus. It has more than 204 full-time faculty members and 80% of them hold a PhD. It has a student/faculty ratio of 15:1. The institution offers a Certificate program in paralegal studies that has been approved by the American Bar Association. Paralegals work under the supervision of an attorney and the program teaches them to learn their duties such as conducting research and investigating facts. They are also trained to analyze, comprehend and draft documents and interview clients and witnesses. Students who have more than 36 credits can just take the paralegal courses and earn the certificate. The programs are offered in the evenings as well as on weekends at various locations. The curriculum includes Introduction to Law, Introduction to Legal Research & Writing, Family Law, Criminal Law, Real Property & Title Search, Business Law I, Wills, Trusts, and Estates, and Civil Litigation & Practice. The Paralegal program is also available as a special program that is offered in conjunction with Ulster County Community College in Stone Ridge, NY. A.S. Degree in Individual Studies as well as the Marist Paralegal Certificate can be earned at the same time by students.
