Description
Loyola University Chicago is one of the largest Jesuit universities and colleges in the United States. The Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Paralegal Studies offered by the institution is approved by the American Bar Association. The students can choose one of three concentrations-Civil Litigation, Corporations, or Real Estate. Classes are offered once a week for 8 weeks, 5 times a year. The program is open to students who hold bachelor's degrees from an accredited college or university; Undergraduate students studying for the School of Continuing and Professional Studies' B.A. in Management; as well as Paralegals with certificates from regionally accredited college and university programs who wish to take up specific courses. The students are offered seven foundation courses, three concentration courses and two elective courses. Required Foundation Courses include•Introduction to Paralegal Studies • Legal Research & Writing I •Legal Research & Writing II •Legal Research & Writing III • Legal Ethics • Basic Business Organizations & Contracts •Law Office Computer Applications. Civil Litigation Concentration courses include •Civil Litigation I •Civil Litigation II • and Civil Litigation III Corporations Concentration includes programs such as •Advanced Business Organizations • Commercial Transactions I: UCC Articles 2 & 2A •Commercial Transactions II: Article 9 & Bankruptcy. Real Estate Concentration courses include •Real Estate Transactions I •Real Estate Transactions II •Advanced Business Organizations The Electives include programs such as •Computer Applications for Litigation •Advanced Legal Research & Writing •Torts, Medical Malpractice • Intellectual Property: Patents & Trade Secrets • Intellectual Property: Trademarks & Copyrights • Securities Regulation I •Estates, Trusts & Wills I •Family Law •Criminal Law & Litigation •Environmental Law •Employment Law •Immigration Law and Internship.
