Description
Inver Hills Community College offers a Paralegal Certificate program as one of its academic areas. The certificate program is open to those who have a bachelor’s or associate’s degree and wish to receive further specialized training to prepare for the paralegal profession. Paralegals are forbidden by law to practice law but they provide invaluable assistance to lawyers by performing certain legal duties for which the lawyers are responsible. The legal assistants help to increase the efficiency and dependability of the lawyer. The paralegal studies certificate program intensely covers topics that are relevant to the paralegal profession such as corporate law, criminal law, family law and real estate law. Students learn to effectively conduct legal research, draft legal documents, interview clients and analyze facts pertaining to a case. A salient feature in the program is the internship opportunity. Students receive hands-on experience working in a legal setting under the supervision of a lawyer. Some of the topics covered by the program are Criminal Justice System, Domestic Relations, Litigation and Trial Practice, and Real Estate for the Paralegal. Elective courses that are also available to enhance your skills include Employment Law, Computerized Legal Research and Interviewing Techniques for the Paralegal. Inver Hills Community College believes in a holistic approach to education. Students are encouraged to participate in various activities on campus to enrich their overall college experience.
