Description
Avila University is a Catholic university located in Kansas City in the state of Missouri. It was established in 1916 and offers a range of four-year liberal arts courses and other professional programs. The university is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Students here receive individual attention because of the low student to faculty ratio of 12:1. The Paralegal programs offered by Avila University train students for employment as Legal Assistants. A paralegal is a person who is employed by a lawyer or legal firm and does specifically delegated work under the supervision of an attorney. This work requires sufficient knowledge of legal concepts like litigation, family law, wills trusts, international law, corporate law, interviewing witnesses and preparing contracts. Avila University offers students a choice of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Paralegal Studies and a Certificate in Paralegal Studies. The B.A degree requires students to complete at least 128 semester hours of academic work with a minimum overall grade point average of 2.0 and no more than 77 hours of LG/AC/BU/EC courses. Students need to gain a minimum grade of “C” in all specified courses. The Certificate in Paralegal Studies is meant for students who already have a bachelor’s degree in another field of study or don’t wish to complete the Bachelor of Arts degree. Students of all courses are provided an internship that requires them to work as a paralegal in a legal setting.
