Arapahoe Community College admitted its first students in 1965. Currently, there are over 7,500 students enrolled in 70 degree and certificate programs here. All courses at Arapahoe Community College are accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Chicago, Illinois. The paralegal program at Arapahoe Community College has been approved by the American Bar Association's Standing Committee on Paralegals since 1977. It combines classroom instruction with practical experience in a legal firm. The courses are taught by licensed Colorado attorneys or paralegals that possess extensive experience in the legal field. There are basically two courses – a 36 semester hour certificate Program and a 60 semester hour Associate of Applied Science degree. These courses can be pursued days, nights as well as on weekends which allow even students who work fulltime to complete the program. Facilities for legal students include an extensive law library which contains federal and Colorado state statutory and case materials. Currently, the certificate program costs a Colorado resident about $3,000 while the Associate of Applied Science Degree is around $5,000.
